Born from a first-hand design journey through Japan—a place where the past and future do not compete but instead inform one another—Coexist invites designers to create interiors shaped by intention, meaning, and emotional resonance.

During their exploration, the Shaw Contract design team encountered spaces where modern innovation coexists with centuries-old craft, and where restraint is not minimalism, but reverence. This perspective became the foundation for the collection. “Japan taught us that balance isn’t static; it’s a dialogue between heritage and progress, which we’ve carried into our work,” said Celeste Buck, Senior Product Designer.

Coexist draws on this interplay through a series of carpet tile styles that function like chapters of a shared story. Flow of Time evokes the steady rhythm of tradition, daily ritual, and the gentle passage of time, layered and deeply grounded in place. Simplicity embraces the beauty of restraint, quiet depth, and thoughtful minimalism—serving as a timeless foundation. Legacy expresses movement and memory like a story passed down, offering both neutral and hued accents that speak to continuity and connection. Imperfect Path celebrates the unexpected and quietly expressive, rich with authenticity and tactility. Present Moment is inspired by the beauty of being fully grounded in now, reminding us that meaningful spaces are those that hold us completely. Reverence honors heritage and craft through subtle texture and structure, a sophisticated evolution of tradition. Finally, Ceremony echoes moments of intention—from the quiet grace of the tea ceremony—through layers of neutral and accented hues that feel intentional rather than ornamental.

These designs are further complemented by raku-inspired porcelain and ceramic surfaces in the Coexist tile collection, enabling specifiers to expand materiality across floors and walls while maintaining a cohesive narrative.

“Because we immersed ourselves in a culture that values curiosity and detail, we left with a renewed design lens—one that balances form and feeling in ways that endure,” shared Ashley Olson, Design Director.
