Behind the Design
The Andaz Lounge in Nanjing Hexi embodies the core concept of "House of Andaz," breaking down the conventional boundaries of hotel spaces. Through a double-height, boundary-free layout, functional zones are defined by suspended panels and vertical screens, creating an open social environment where ideas, daily life, and travel converge. Drawing inspiration from Nanjing’s imperial examination culture, the design collective Avalon integrated bookshelves, an artistic ceiling, and orange-red orbital-inspired hanging panels into the space. These elements evoke the literati gatherings tradition of the Six Dynasties period, while modern materials reinterpret the vibrant pulse of contemporary Nanjing.
Embodying diversity and inclusion, the lounge serves as a vital connector between Hui 108 Restaurant and the Sky Garden. Through a bamboo-lined pathway on its expansive thousand-square-meter terrace, the spatial experience extends seamlessly, allowing guests to savor creative delicacies such as duck tongues marinated in Wuliangye liquor while transitioning from urban bustle to poetic solitude. This paradox of being “both open and private” epitomizes Andaz’s philosophy of “Personal Style”—celebrating individual freedom within a collectively shared environment.
