Meet the Judges from our

Best of Greater China Panel

We're honoured to introduce the design luminaries shaping this year's Best of Greater China judging panel. Looking through the Design Optimist lens, they'll champion the very best of design from our region — spaces where every detail tells a story, where craft and creativity come together, and where bold ideas are brought to life with intention and integrity. Beyond design intent, they'll be seeking work that reflects our shared commitment to Material Health, Circular Economy, Carbon Impact, and Diversity & Inclusion.

Because through the Shaw Contract Design Awards, we don't just celebrate what's beautiful — we celebrate what matters.

Yongjie Jin

CAALADI

Chief Interior Architect

Hangzhou, Greater China

Jin believes that space is an expression of lifestyle, emphasizing the integration of nature, art, and life insights into spatial design through design thinking, achieving a fusion of functional spatial aesthetics and life experience. He is dedicated to the research of prefabricated interior integrated design systems, advocating for systematic design that combines design aesthetics with green technology through rigorous logic, striving to let design change lives.

With over 30 years of experience in interior design, Jin has received numerous awards from the China Interior Design Awards and Zhejiang Provincial Decoration Design Awards over the years. He has collaborated extensively with renowned domestic real estate developers and high-end hotel management companies. Adhering to a "people-oriented" design philosophy, Jin's projects — such as the Asian Games Sub-Village, Hangzhou Guanyun Qiantang City, and the China Zheshang Bank Headquarters — have become industry benchmarks.

Chengbo Wang (AIA, Registered Architect – New York State)

As a Partner at J&A and Vice President of Workplace Design,

Chengbo Wang oversees the overall design quality and direction for workplace projects in Shanghai, as well as team development. With nearly 16 years of experience in both local and global design and project management, he upholds the philosophy of creating value for clients through design, and is consistently committed to delivering optimal design solutions.

Paulo Guacchione

B+H Architects (A SJ Company)

Senior Associate/ Senior Design Director

Shanghai, Greater China

Paulo Guacchione is an award-winning architect and interior

designer with nearly 20 years of experience delivering high-end interiors across Europe and Asia. Based in Shanghai for the past 12 years, he expertly blends European design principles with Eastern aesthetics to create innovative concepts for large workplace campuses, hospitality, retail, and residential projects.

While his creative vision is central to his practice, Paulo is equally distinguished by his ability to lead at scale. He manages the entire design and delivery process from conception to construction, efficiently coordinating large, multi-disciplinary teams across multiple simultaneous projects. Beyond project delivery, Paulo is a dedicated mentor who actively cultivates emerging talent, fostering

a collaborative studio culture where craftsmanship and innovation thrive. His operational strength lies in balancing imaginative concepts with practical problem-solving, ensuring that ambitious designs progress smoothly through every phase without losing their essence.

Paulo’s distinctive skill is his ability to frame design as a narrative. He uses storytelling to align client visions with technical execution, creating spaces that evoke emotion and serve a clear purpose. By leveraging early collaboration with specialists and industry experts, he identifies opportunities to enhance project value, resulting in

high-performance, innovative solutions that are as functional as they are beautiful.

Angel Shen

FTA Architecture

Partner

Shanghai, Greater China

A Partner at FTA and General Manager of the Enterprise Office Division, Angel is the industry pioneer of the "Diagnostic Design" philosophy. With 18 years of deep expertise in corporate headquarters design, Angel has led FTA to become a leading "corporate headquarters office design brand," serving a client base that includes numerous Fortune 500 companies and industry benchmark enterprises. Angel was the first to integrate organizational behavior studies with spatial design methodology, establishing the "Four-Dimension Integration" diagnostic working approach — systematically examining four interconnected dimensions: industry trends, corporate strategy, user behavior, and spatial carriers. This

methodology elevates design from aesthetic expression to strategic decoding, transforming space into a strategic tool that drives organizational effectiveness and cultural implementation.

Angel firmly believes that design is not merely about solving

problems — it is about shaping the future. Environment shapes behavior, and behavior shapes people — space, as a silent influence, drives the evolution of human lifestyles.

As a female leader, Angel is also consistently committed to

championing women's power in the design field. Angel believes that diverse female perspectives represent an irreplaceable and transformative creative force in reshaping the depth of the design industry.
