What is BREEAM?
BREEAM (Building Research Establishment Environmental Assessment Method) is one of the world’s longest-established methods for assessing, rating and certifying the sustainability of buildings.
It provides a framework for evaluating a building across a range of sustainability factors, helping project teams identify opportunities to reduce environmental impacts and create healthier, more sustainable spaces.
BREEAM certification is widely used internationally, with certified and registered buildings across the UK and many other countries.
How BREEAM Works?
BREEAM assesses buildings against a range of sustainability criteria, helping project teams consider environmental performance from design through to operation.
For construction products, environmental information can play an important role in helping specifiers select materials that contribute towards BREEAM objectives.
BRE Environmental Profile certification provides independently assessed environmental information for construction products. It uses a life-cycle approach to evaluate a product's environmental impacts and provides a rating that can be used by manufacturers and specifiers.
The results are published through BRE's environmental assessment resources and can support specifiers when selecting products for projects seeking BREEAM certification.
